I am a PhD student. My dissertation research focus on “VULNERABILITY AND ADAPTATION TO CLIMATICAL CHANGES IN THE BIOSPHERE RESERVE OF THE OASIS IN SOUTHERN MOROCCO” The thesis work that we are proposing has an objective, to methodically, clearly and objectively assess scientific, technical and socio-economic information which is necessary and useful for understanding the scientific basis of risks related to climate change, identify more precisely the possible consequences of this change and consider possible strategies for adaptation and mitigation. Our work is done in the Tafilalet plain and in the Ziz Basin, which are part of the biosphere oasis reserve in southern Morocco (UNESCO, November 2000). I present the up-stream-downstream context in which downstream water pollution stems from upstream sources, or in which significant water diversion limits water availability and/or usability in the downstream areas of The Ziz valley (southern Morocco). I use the Water Evaluation and Planning (WEAP) model for the simulation and analysis of various water allocation scenarios and, above all, scenarios of users’ behavior. There are many evidences concerning degradation, pollution and overexploitation of water resources, resulting from inappropriate groundwater management systems based on the administrative division. I propose the Ecohydrological approach as an adaptive management solution.
I have participated in planning workshops in Morocco and have widely disseminated the information through our website www.ucam.ac.ma/ccam .
I have been involved in a number of research activities including the climate change workshop in the Maghreb, at the university of Marrakech, Morocco, the 25th and 26th November 2008 as a member of organizing committee (www.ucam.ac.ma/ccam) and the MELIA 2nd workshop on: technological perspectives for rational use of water resources in the Mediterranean region, Marrakech 29th October-2nd November, 2008 (oral presentation).
I am a voluntary nature Moderator for the National Park of Toubkal / High Commissioner for Water, Forests and the Fight against Desertification, Regional Directorate of Water and Forests of the High Atlas Marrakech.
